Look Here For A Great Supply Of Tips About Cats

There are many parasites that can feed on your cat. Fleas and ticks are two of the well known parasites, but there are plenty more that people forget about. The only way to stop these parasites is with knowledge. Learn how to combat them and keep them from preying on your cat with this article.

If your cat suddenly goes off its feed for no apparent reason, try tempting treats such as jack mackerel, tuna, or cream of chicken soup in small amounts. These are not complete foods and shouldn’t be fed long term, but they are extremely tasty to cats. A finicky cat may start eating again and keep on when given one of these treats.

If you have outdoor cats, be sure to discourage pests such as coyotes, possums and raccoons by bringing cat food indoors at night. Feed your cats first thing in the morning, and make sure there is no food left at nightfall. This will keep your cats safe from attack and illness.

Avoid eye contact to make friends with a cat. Ever wonder why cats seem drawn to the person who likes cats the least? The answer lies in cat body language. To cats, staring is “rude” and can be considered a challenge. Looking away shows that you respect their space and are not going to be a threat. So next time you are looking to meet a new feline friend, look away and let them approach you.

Clip your cats nails regularly. Cats do have to scratch. However, when cats scratch, their nail sheaths come off and their sharp, pointy claws are exposed. Clipping your cat’s claws every two to three weeks keeps them blunt and helps keep harm to furniture, humans, and other pets to a minimum.

As your cat gets older, changes in behavior may signal pain. If your cat doesn’t like to jump or climb any more, it may be in pain. If your cat stops taking care of grooming or stops using its litter box, pain may be the cause. Be sure to have your older cat checked out by your vet if you notice behavior changes.

Cats and electrical cords don’t mix. If you notice your cat has a habit of chewing on electric cords, try to bundle them up and hide them out of the cat’s reach. If that’s not possible, spray a little bit of bitter apple onto the cords. Not only is bitter apple non-toxic, cats absolutely hate the taste.

You cat needs to get used to being in a carrier. Cats just don’t respond like dogs do when it comes to punishment. Encouragement is a better way to get your cats to perform. Place the open carrier in an area that your cat visits often and outfit it with a favorite toy and blanket. The cat will be drawn to the carrier, where it will feel safe and comfy. This will make it easier to mobilize your cat.

Keep track of your feline friend by having the animal microchipped. This small device is implanted beneath the skin between your cat’s shoulder blades. Microchip implantation may sting for a few seconds, but the implant is otherwise unnoticeable and will not cause your pet any discomfort. This chip makes it easier for animal control to locate your cat if it goes missing.

You should give your cat at least three weeks to grow used to the presence of a new animal. Cats usually do not like change, especially when it comes to another cat. Therefore, they may hide, hiss, or even fight one another. Cats usually learn to enjoy having a companion or at least put up with another one in their home.

If you have ever given your cat a bath, then you know how much they shiver when it is over. This is because their wet fur provides them with no insulation. You can help your cat out by using your hairdryer to dry the hair fast. Just remember not to hold it too close and burn your cat.

Your kitty’s litter box should be strategically placed. You may want to place in some out-of-the-way corner so the smell doesn’t bother anyone. It is equally important that the litter box is readily accessible to your cat, though. Your cat will use the litter box if it is placed in a quiet place and away from smells your cat does not enjoy. If your litter box location is on a cold floor, you may want to put a rug underneath of the box.

If your cat is not getting trained to use the litter box as fast as you would like, there are sprays available that can make things a bit easier. These sprays have a scent that will attract your cat to the box, which means they will be more likely to go there when they need to use the bathroom.

Pay attention to your cat’s litter box habits. If it stops using the box, medical problems could be to blame. If your cat refuses to use its litter box, there may be an underlying health concern. These problems are generally related to the kidneys and/or bladder. Speak with your vet if your pet stops using the litter box.

This article featured a number of tips for dealing with cat parasites. These parasites should not be taken lightly. If ignored, they can possibly give your cat diseases, keep them from getting nutrients, and even kill them. Never let the health of your cat be taken for granted. You have the power to save them, so use it.
